Betelgeuse is a red supergiant star in the Orion constellation, one of the largest and brightest stars visible to the naked eye. With a radius about 1,000 times that of the Sun and a mass 10-20 times greater, it’s nearing the end of its life cycle and is expected to explode as a supernova. Located around 700 light-years away, Betelgeuse has a surface temperature of about 3,200-3,600 Kelvin, giving it its red hue. Though no planets are confirmed around it, its eventual supernova will be a significant astronomical event. It’s also known for its variable brightness due to its pulsating outer layers.
