Deimos is smaller than Phobos, with a diameter of about 12 kilometers, making it one of the smallest moons in the solar system. Deimos orbits Mars at a distance of about 23,500 kilometers.
Phobos is about 22 kilometers in diameter, with an irregular, potato-like shape. It orbits just 6,000 kilometers above Mars' surface, the closest of any moon to its planet in the solar system.
